Microsoft Windows 10 New Version Is Not Supported In Some PCs
Here is the news for the unlucky users who bought 2-in-1 PCs announced in 2012 and sold out in 2013 and 2014. Their PCs would have got an automatic Windows 10 upgrade in mid of 2015 and would also have updated Summer 2016 Anniversary Update. Now when in those PCs users try to install the March 2017 Creators update, version 1703, it fails. The message that appears is
Windows 10 is no longer supported on this PC. Uninstall this app now because it isn’t compatible with Windows 10.
Now there is no app to uninstall. The issue is between the hardware of those PCs and the latest version of Windows 10, both of them are incompatible.
Interesting: 500 million monthly active users of Microsoft Windows 10
Many reports have been registered related to this issue and the devices affected are developed around Intel’s Atom Clover Trail series CPUs. These chips were part of 2-in-1 PCs that came in 2013,14. Now the error to download new version occurs when users try to install Creators Update on an HP Envy X2. The compatibility check didn’t show error but when download starts and more than 3GB of setup is downloaded then the error written above pops up. Also, there is no apparent solution to this problem. Those PCs are kind of stuck with version 1607 of Windows 10.
For Microsoft itself, it is a point of concern as their policy is that each update would of Windows 10 will serviced with quality update till 18 months of its release. So after 18 months that would be somewhere in 2018 any device running Windows 10 version 1607 will not receive update reminder either.
There isn’t any explanation apparent or given of this compatibility issue either. There are Intel Clover Trail processors that are not yet supported on Atom Z2760, Atom Z2520, Atom Z2560 and Atom Z2580. Microsoft is working to address the incompatibility problem. To those who have installed Creators Update and are now encountering a problem, they can restore their PCs to the previous version using Windows 10 recovery options.
