Apple apparently reduces the number of iPhone 16 units

Apple has apparently revised the planned numbers of the iPhone 16 series downwards by a few million units, so that around 10 million fewer devices should now roll off the production lines by the end of the first half of 2025.

According to the Taiwanese financial analyst and Apple specialist Mingchi Kuo Apple recently reduced orders from its suppliers for the production of components for use in the Apple iPhone 16 series models. As a result, Kuo assumes that a total of around 10 million fewer units will roll off the production lines by mid-2025. Total production for the second half of 2024 will probably be around 84 million devices, following previous estimates of around 88 million units.

According to Kuo, production volumes for the remaining quarters until the introduction of the iPhone 17 will probably be lower than expected. According to his own information, Kuo assumes that Apple will produce around 80 million iPhone 16 models in the fourth quarter of 2024, around 45 million in the first quarter of 2025 and around 39 million in the second quarter of 2025. The analyst also provides details about Apple’s plans for the 4th generation iPhone SE. According to him, the iPhone SE4 will probably go into mass production from December 2024. According to Kuo, the cuts in planned quantities will primarily affect the cheaper “normal” models in the form of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

He assumes that the industry’s and Apple’s hopes of a strong surge in demand through the introduction of the new AI functions in the form of “Apple Intelligence” have apparently been disappointed so far. The reason for this is simple: Apple has promised a lot, but the AI ​​features are simply hardly available so far.
