Microsoft has confirmed a new issue with Windows 10 and Windows 11. The error, which affects all applications that use DirectX, first appeared with the release of KB5019980 – i.e. as early as November 2022.
That’s according to a new entry in the Windows Release Health Dashboard. We have translated the entry for you and added it to the end of this post.
Microsoft confirms that there are problems with Intel graphics drivers and apps that use DirectX or Direct3D for rendering after the KB5019980 update for Windows 10 and Windows 11. KB5019980 was shipped on patch day in November.
The problem causes apphelp.dll to spit out an error message. Affected are users who have installed an Intel graphics driver with a version before 30.0.101.1190. According to Microsoft, there are no error messages when using newer driver versions. The Windows team is currently working on a solution. So it should be possible to solve it with a new patch – only when it will appear not yet been said. It is possible that a bug fix update will be launched as early as patch day in February.
You may receive an apphelp.dll error from applications using DirectX: After installing KB5019980, Windows devices with Intel graphics drivers versions 26.20.100.7463 to 30.0.101.1190 may encounter an apphelp.dll error. This problem can be intermittent and affects applications that use DirectX or Direct3D to render some or all of the content.
bypass: To mitigate this problem, you can install an Intel graphics driver with a newer version than 30.0.101.1190. It is recommended that you check with your Windows device manufacturer for the latest version of the Intel graphics driver for your device. If the manufacturer does not offer a newer driver than 30.0.101.1190, see the Intel Graphics Drivers list for information on downloading and installing the latest Intel graphics driver, which is available directly from Intel.
