Call of Duty will remain available for the PlayStation

Just over a week ago, Microsoft announced its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the business is, of course, still a topic of conversation – and will continue to be. One topic is and remains Call of Duty. There is a limited time all-clear for PlayStation players.

Call of Duty (CoD) is and remains Activision’s most important game, it is arguably the most important title the gaming world has ever known. The interest from the experts, but especially from the players and PlayStation owners, is correspondingly high about what is happening with CoD. Sony has already warned Microsoft to stick to existing agreements and Microsoft has announced that it will do so. What this actually means is not yet clear. Because, of course, you can’t expect Microsoft to spend nearly $70 billion just to carry on as if nothing happened. So it’s clear: sooner or later, most if not all Activision Blizzard games will be Xbox and PC exclusives.

Next three CoD games also for the PlayStation

The business portal Bloomberg but has now learned what the immediate future of Call of Duty on PlayStation looks like. Accordingly, Activision would have agreed to publish the “next few” Call of Duty games on the Sony console even before its acquisition (announcement) by Microsoft.

It must be the next two regular editions of the shooter, namely the Call of Duty parts that will appear this year and next. A new Modern Warfare part of Infinity Ward should come in the fall of 2022, next year it will be the turn of the Treyarch Studio. In addition, the PlayStation should also receive a sequel or “planned new iteration” of the battle royale free-to-play shooter Call of Duty: Warzone. But PlayStation owners shouldn’t feel “safe”. Basically, these three games just mean Activision will go ahead as planned until it’s acquired by Microsoft (which will be finalized in mid-2023) — so it’s only going to be interesting to see what it looks like from 2024.
