Despite being introduced for five months now Android 13 is adopted by only 5.2% of devices

The first update for the year 2023 has been added to the Android distribution chart. The latest information gives us a detailed understanding of how fast OEMs have delivered the Android 13 to their devices. In this article, we will unveil things based on statistics.

Let us start with some stats coming from Google. As per the latest information by the company, despite being available for five months now, Android 13 is only running on 5.2% of devices. On the other hand, Android 12 and 12L are available across 18.9% of devices. This number is quite huge compared to the 13.5% in August. However, Android 8.0 Oreo has observed a downfall of below 10%. Similar trends could be observed for older versions of Android. Android Jelly Bean previously had 0.3% adaptability, it has now been excluded from the list. Furthermore, KitKat witnessed a drop of 0.2% i.e., 0.9% to 0.7%.

When it comes to Android 11, the devices running on this OS are around 24.4%. Whereas 19.5% of devices are based on Android 10. We can expect these numbers to change as security backporting for these operating systems is going to end by February 2023. They will shift towards the recent versions of Android.

On the other hand, the fast adoption of Android 13 is due to the efforts of OEMs like Sony, Samsung, Google, OnePlus, and others. Samsung has for sure performed the best. Since it has introduced the latest Android 13 to a huge number of devices. Besides this, the tech firm even provides four generations of Android updates to its devices. Such a strategy makes the transition to new versions of Android quite easy. In the previous year, we observed some rapid adoption of Android 13 One UI 5.0 upgrades to more than 40 Galaxy devices by Samsung.
