Developers of Apple Vision Pro Requested to avoid “VR” branding

The Cupertino-based tech firm Apple has issued new guidelines for developers working on AR/VR apps and products. Reportedly, while listing their apps on the visionOS App Store, the company is asking developers to avoid using AR, VR, and headset words. The information comes from 9To5Mac. Notably, all the new requirements have been listed on Apple’s developer website.

It is expressly forbidden for developers to use the terms augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), extended reality (XR), or mixed reality (MR) while describing their apps. In June 2023, the company used the term spatial computing while announcing the Vision Pro headset. The company wants developers to stick to it. Well, this is an effort by the company to distinguish its product from others in the same category. The company might intend to present a different image of its product in consumers minds.

In addition to this, the company has requested that developers avoid referring to the Vision Pro as a headset. Moreover, the company details that the name of the device ‘Apple Vision Pro’ must always be typed with a capital A, V, and P. The name must not be accompanied by an article. Apple Vision Pro shouldn’t be broken into two lines. The company details that the developers can’t use the phrase Apple Vision Pro while describing or naming their apps. The company details that saying “name of app” for Apple Vision Pro is appropriate if the promotion emphasizes the features and advantages of the product. Please refrain from calling the Apple Vision Pro a “headset.”

In addition to this, the company has begun using “Apple Vision” to refer to Apple Vision Pro throughout the beta cycle. Instead of Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro apps, the company is now using Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision apps. While there is no “Vision Pro” tab on Apple’s website, the company has gradually shifted its branding to “Apple Vision,” which seems to support the notion that it is developing a “Vision” product line. It is reported that the Vision Pro will launch with a $3,499 price tag. Besides this, several rumors indicate that the company will debut a cheaper headset in the future.
