A conflict between Nintendo and Amazon has worsened so far that the game group has now partially withdrawn products from the trading platform. Amazon loses part of the sales of the Switch 2 boom.
According to a report from the news agency, the argument goes Bloomberg To sell Nintendo products by third-party providers on the US platform Amazon. There, for example, retailers would offer games at cheaper prices than Nintendo intended and Amazon was probably not the same as the game group expected. As announced from informed circles, resourceful providers had bought large amounts of Nintendo goods in Southeast Asia and imported them to the USA.
These were then sold via Amazon’s marketplace – at prices that undercut the official sales prices of Nintendo. Amazon tried to defuse the situation by offering to provide affected products with a seal of authenticity. However, Nintendo was not convinced of this and decided to stop working with Amazon in the USA.
In the meantime, the sale via other large retailers such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Gamestop existed – these also led the new Switch 2 to the market launch. Amazon customers in the USA, on the other hand, searched the console in vain on the platform, while it was available in other countries such as Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom. In view of the importance of the US market, which is around two thirds of Amazon’s total turnover, this was a remarkable step.
Neither Nintendo nor Amazon said specifically about the details of the conflict. Nintendo only emphasized that there is basically no information about negotiations with retailers. Amazon, in turn, rejected the presentation in media reports as “incorrect”. The tensions between large brands and Amazon are not new.
Many companies have been complaining about a lack of control over third -party providers on the platform for years. In the past, brands such as Apple or Nike have already retired – partly in order to later return under new conditions. Currently, new lists, for example for the coming game Donkey Kong Bananza, indicate that Nintendo and Amazon may come together again. However, there is still no official sales offer for Switch 2 on Amazon USA-to the displeasure of many US fans who rely on the world’s largest online retailers.
