Facebook Brings Free Broadcast of La Liga Games in Indian Subcontinent

Facebook would be broadcasting free live matches of La Liga Games in the Indian subcontinent. The La Liga stars including Gareth Bale and Lionel Messi would be happy for the free transmission in the Indian subcontinent. This broadcast is part of the agreement with Facebook to broadcast live matches, as informed by the Spanish top flight division.

All the three hundred and eighty football matches of the new 2018-2019 La Liga season, which would be commencing from Friday, would be available to watch on Facebook in Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan, as was told by La Liga in a statement.

Javier Tebas—the President of La Liga said that they are happy on partnering with the social networking giant and be able to bring the action much closer to the audience of La Liga in the Indian subcontinent.

He also said that La Liga is a reference in the world of football and it is of immense satisfaction to them that the number of people who could watch the live matches reside in this geographic area which would be greater than before and this all would be done for free via Facebook.

The agreement is for the next three seasons and would cover pre and post-match analysis programmes as well.

The financial details of the deal were not revealed in the statement however the Spanish sports—Daily Marca reported that the agreement was worth ninety million euros.

Back in June La Liga made an announcement that it had renewed its contracts for five seasons, between 2019 to 2024, for the international transmission rights for the Spanish championship for nearly 4.48 billion euros per season, a thirty per cent increase upon the last agreement.

Facebook previously made a deal with the UK broadcaster—Eleven Sports for showing one La Liga and one Serie A game per week on its platform.

India has got billions of mobile phone users; the number surpasses the users of every other country on earth. And more than half a billion people have got internet access in India, mostly through their smartphones, which makes video streaming from sites such as Facebook possible.
