Flight Simulator: Huge free update and Goodyear Zeppelin

Just in time for American Independence Day, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will receive the free World Update 22. From July, virtual pilots will explore more than 30 detailed US national parks and control the Goodyear Blimp airship.
Update brings US national parks
The developers at Asobo will release World Update 22 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on July 4, 2026. Just in time for American Independence Day, the free package expands the flight simulation with detailed recreations of over 30 US national parks. It allows players to virtually explore vast natural landscapes of the United States from the air. In order to cope with the enormous amount of landscape data, the developers use high-resolution satellite images and photogrammetry methods. The content update covers an area of more than 400,000 square kilometers, spanning twelve US states. Regions covered include Arizona, California, Colorado and Texas, among others. In addition to the natural monuments, the creators integrate the historic Goodyear Blimp airship into the simulation as a controllable aircraft. The famous impact airship is often used for aerial observation at major sporting events in the United States, offering players a new, slow way to travel to view the landscapes in detail.
Details about the new locations
The optical quality of the US landscapes is noticeably improved. World Update 22 adds digital images of real parks to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which in previous versions of the game were only represented using rough altitude data. Highlights of the update include the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Yosemite and Death Valley in California, Yellowstone in Wyoming, and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. The locations have been completely recalculated using current geographical data. The developers also used laser scan data to ensure the correct display. In addition to the graphical revision of the nature parks, there is another innovation for autumn 2026.
The simulation is being expanded to include the National Championship Air Races. The traditional motorsport competition brings official air races into the game on the real race tracks in Reno, Nevada and Roswell, New Mexico. In reality, the Reno air races ran until 2023 before the event moved to Roswell. Pilots can look forward to various aircraft classes in the virtual races, including jets, biplanes and the so-called STOL drag class. The abbreviation stands for Short Take-Off and Landing and requires special flight maneuvers close to the ground.
Availability on the platforms
World Update 22 and National Championship Air Racing will be available for download on July 4, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. It can be assumed that sooner or later the PlayStation 5 version will also be considered, but as part of Microsoft’s exclusivity plans, the PS5 patch is currently not (yet) mentioned by name.
