Galaxy Tab S8 and S7 comparison: Minor differences noticed

Samsung released a successor to the Tab S7 this year with the Galaxy Tab S8. A lot has changed, especially on the inside, but both tablets are very similar overall. our colleague Andrzej Tokarskic compares both models and explains whether switching to the Galaxy Tab S8 is worth it.

Better performance is not noticeable yet

Samsung installs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.8 GB RAM and 128 or 256 GB storage in the Galaxy Tab S8. This makes it slightly faster than the one-and-a-half-year-old Galaxy Tab S7, at least in benchmarks. It uses the Snapdragon 865+ and comes with 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. For now, in any case, there is no difference in performance between the two tablets for everyday tasks.

This also applies to games like PUBG Mobile or Fortnite. There are minor differences in the cameras: the front camera of the Galaxy Tab S7 has a resolution of 8 megapixels, while the S8 has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera. The main camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels, and the ultra-wide angle on the back is slightly better with 6 instead of 5 megapixels on the Galaxy Tab S8.

S8 Will get Longer updates

The design of both tablets is the same. They both have a metal housing, a USB Type-C port, and four speakers. The displays are each 11 inches in size, have a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, and support up to 120 Hertz. There are no changes to the S Pen. The software of both tablets is currently (almost) identical: they run Android 12, but Samsung’s OneUI UI is slightly newer on the Galaxy Tab S8. However, it is important to remember that Samsung will continue to provide updates for the Tab S8 for a long time to come.
