Google is going to start producing Pixel phones in India

According to some recent pieces of information, the tech giant Google is considering manufacturing Pixel smartphones locally in India. Reportedly, the company is busy in talks with local as well as international manufacturers in India. In 2024, the first domestically produced Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are anticipated to be available in India. The company is also growing its nationwide service network.

Google will manufacture Pixel phones in India

Although Google entered the smartphone hardware business late, the company has still managed to make its presence in the market. The smartphones are in direct competition with Samsung’s S-series models and rank among the best flagship options available for Android.

Like many other businesses, Google has a sizable market in India. With enormous growth potential, it is the most populous country in the world. Under the “Make in India” campaign, the Narendra Modi-led Indian government has been pressuring international tech companies to expand domestic production by providing incentives of up to $2 billion.

Google and HP have already partnered to build Chromebooks domestically as part of Google’s support for the program. It is currently preparing to release Pixel phones that are “Made in India.” Although the company hasn’t disclosed any manufacturing partners just yet, a June report said that it is in discussions with Dixon Technologies India, Lava International, and Foxconn’s Indian subsidiary, Bharat FIH.

Currently, there are no details about the manufacturing plants, capacity, or starting date. The initial batch of the “Made in India” Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will arrive on the market in 2024. Perhaps more information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Google’s service network in India is expanding too

The company anticipates that Pixel phone production in India will boost sales. For this reason, the company is growing its service network in the country. It presently has 28 service centers in 27 different cities around the country, in collaboration with F1 Info Solutions. We’ll have to wait and see if local production boosts Google’s Pixel sales in India.
