Google Photos Locked Folder may soon receive a significant improvement to its cloud connectivity

Almost two years back, the tech company Google added an excellent feature to its Photos app. The feature was termed Locked folder. This feature enables the users to secure their photos that don’t wish to appear in the main view. Hence the photos are stored in a separate folder inside the Utilities menu of the Photos app.

In order to access the Locked Folder, users are required to unlock their device once again. Thus, ensuring great privacy. But unfortunately, there is one drawback associated with this feature it doesn’t have support for the backup to the cloud. It indicates that if a user loses his/her device, he/she will end up losing all the photos. However, some recent indications predict that it might be changing soon.

Recently, via the Telegram platform, the Google Newsgroup shared an image. In that image, a button for turning on the backup of the Locked Folder is visible. Besides the image, the post mentions that Google Photos has introduced a hidden settings page that will permit users to back up photos and videos from the Locked Folder to the cloud. This feature will be available with version 6.23 of Google Photos. Do note that the feature is not presented with the current version of Google Photos. But this information suggests that the feature will arrive soon.

The storage of sensitive and private information and data in the cloud is an inherent trade-off. However, it is quite beneficial for some users. given the new update, users won’t lose their data even if they lose their device, or upgrade it. Or even uninstall the Google Photos app.
