Google’s Last Tablet – Will No Longer Make Any New Tablets

Google has made its last tablet. By this we mean it is no longer to make any tablet hardware. It will now focus more on developing laptops.

A Google spokesperson said that “for Google’s first-party hardware efforts, we’ll be focusing on Chrome OS laptops and will continue to support Pixel Slate.”

Also, the spokesperson noted that Google will work on the third-party hardware makers on Chrome OS for laptops and tablets

Initially, the news was revealed by JR Raphael at Computerworld who said that Google was working on two small tablets both of which have been canceled.

Google SVP Rick Osterloh tweeted, “Hey, it’s true…Google’s HARDWARE team will be solely focused on building laptops moving forward, but make no mistake, Android & Chrome OS teams are 100% committed for the long-run on working with our partners on tablets for all segments of the market (consumer, enterprise, edu).”

If we look back we can say that the 2013 model of Nexus 7 was a good small tablet but 2014’s Nexus 9 and 2012’s Nexus 10 were a failure. The first Google Chrome OS tablet Pixel Slate worked best when it was cropped with a keyboard and trackpad.

Despite the news by Google of quitting the tablets, it will still support Pixel Slate for years to come.
