In 2025, Samsung intends to introduce a rollable smartphone

Some recent pieces of information suggest that the South Korean conglomerate Samsung is working on a rollable smartphone. Reports suggest that the company will launch a rollable smartphone in 2025. As per the information shared by @Tech_Reve, the rollable smartphone will feature a bezel-less design and an under-display or under-panel camera (UPC). Currently, there is no proper name for the product.

Given the evolution of smartphones, the next option in line is rollable and slidable smartphones. Several companies are working on these designs. A few companies have come forward with prototypes and concept devices. On the other hand, Samsung has been working on this concept for the past few years.

Samsung has already acquired patents for rollable and slidable smartphone designs. Alongside this, Samsung Display has already unveiled OLED panels that can be rolled up when not in use. The business even introduced one of these solutions to SID Display Week 2023 in California in May 2023. It was termed Rollable Flex. It is an OLED panel that measures 254.4mm in fully extended form. On rolling it, the OLED panel can fit in a 49mm package. The screen can be scaled up by 5 times. It fixes the problem of large-screen devices not being portable. The scaling capabilities of current foldable cellphones are 3X or even less.

Samsung Display has not shared any details regarding the commercial availability of the Rollable Flex as a smartphone. It might be unveiled by the company’s mobile division, i.e., MX, or Mobile Experience. But it was just a matter of time before the two divisions of the Samsung Group collaborated and created a useful item. They also appear to be working on something.

Samsung is working on its first rollable smartphone

As per the information, the company will begin mass production of rollable smartphones in 2025. It might be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. It might arrive separately or even later than the suggested timeframe. Besides this, the company is improving its UPC technology. Back in 2021, the company debuted the UPC on its foldable smartphone i.e., Galaxy Z Fold 3. Even though it is been two years since its debut the camera quality is not that good. The company has improved certain aspects but they are not quite significant.
