Intel’s pay-as-you-go CPU platform named Intel On Demand

Intel On Demand is the official name for the new pay-as-you-go CPU platform.

Intel is a software-defined platform. The new feature will enable the system administrators to activate special-purpose accelerators by paying some additional fee. The 4th Generation Xeon Scalable ‘Sapphire Rapids‘ processors hold special-purpose accelerators. The fresh line of processors is expected to arrive in early 2023.

As per the reports, it is suggested that Intel on Demand will uncover the features present physically on a CPU. It will enable the administrators to activate the features as well as monitor their usage via the “meter certificates”. The meter certificates account for checking the use of licensed, activated hardware features.

According to reports, the Sapphire Rapids processors will include different acceleration technologies. These include:

  • Intel Data Streaming Accelerator (DSA)
  • Intel In-Memory Analytics Accelerator (IAA)
  • Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX)
  • Dynamic Load Balancer (DLB)
  • Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT)

Thus, accelerating the workload.

The company has notified that the new platform will revolve around storage, analytics, networking as well as AI. It seems like the company is undergoing a period of change. Though, the details about the price and accurate capacities of the new platform are yet to be made public.

Furthermore, a reduction plan for expenses has also been announced. It is set to tear costs by around $3 billion in 2023. It is expected that it could grow between $8 billion to $10 billion by the end of 2025. Given if the yearly cost reduction plans are followed.
