iOS 12.5.6: Security updates for older iPhones and iPads
Apple is renewing product maintenance and releasing new security updates with iOS 12.5.6 for older iPhones and iPads still running the iOS 12 operating system released in September 2018. The 6th generation iPod Touch will also receive the corresponding update, which fixes the WebKit browser engine.
iOS 12.5.6 from iPhone 5S and iPad Air 1st generation
iOS 12.5.6, the security update that follows iOS 12.5.5, released last September, addresses a vulnerability (CVE-2022-32893) in Apple’s internal browser and HTML rendering engine WebKit, which was last fixed with the updates in iOS and iPadOS 15.6.1 on recent devices. iOS 12.5.6 includes an important security update The second vulnerability (CVE-2022-32894) that was closed in iOS 15 does not affect iOS 12, as Apple reported in the Release Notes approved. The latest security update is already included in macOS 12.5.1 (“Monterey”). Including the now updated legacy devices receiving build 16H71, Apple has now closed the WebKit vulnerabilities in all affected models in its portfolio.
