Leaked Camera Specs Reveal OnePlus 13R Is Not Just a Rebranded OnePlus Ace 5

OnePlus 13R

There has been much speculation that the upcoming OnePlus 13R would simply be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 5—similar to how the OnePlus 12R mirrored the Ace 3. However, recent leaks have debunked this widely held belief, showcasing distinctive features that set the 13R apart ahead of its global launch on January 7.

Interestingly, the OnePlus Ace 4 doesn’t exist because the number four is considered bad luck in Chinese culture due to its phonetic similarity to the word for death. This cultural influence, known as tetraphobia, led Oppo and OnePlus to skip the number in their flagship series, jumping straight to the Ace 5.

What’s Different in the Camera Setup?

The OnePlus 13R and Ace 5 both come equipped with a 50 MP main camera using Sony’s Lytia LYT-700 sensor and an 8 MP ultra-wide lens. The 16 MP front-facing camera is shared between the two models as well. However, what truly distinguishes the OnePlus 13R is the addition of a telephoto camera featuring Samsung’s ISOCELL JN5 sensor. This new hardware provides a 2x optical zoom capability, which is entirely absent on the Ace 5.

The detailed camera specifications of the OnePlus 13R were revealed by leaker Yogesh Brar. To see the full list of features, you can check out his tweet here.

Battery and Performance

When it comes to power, the OnePlus Ace 5 has a slight edge with its 6400mAh battery, compared to the OnePlus 13R’s 6000mAh capacity. However, the OnePlus 13R makes up for it with powerful configurations tailored for different user needs. The 13R will be available in two variants in India—one featuring 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and another with a more robust 16GB RAM and 512GB storage option for heavy users.

Key Takeaway

Despite earlier assumptions, the OnePlus 13R is not simply a twin of the China-exclusive Ace 5. The addition of features like the telephoto lens and varied configurations proves that the 13R is being designed to uniquely appeal to a global audience. All eyes are now on January 7, when the device will officially be unveiled.
