Microsoft Edge Becomes More Popular In The Recent Years

Microsoft’s sometimes far too aggressive and annoying way of constantly advertising the new Chromium-based Edge browser to Windows users is slowly paying off. The market share is growing, but by no means at the level that the group would like.

The latest statistics on the market share of web browsers bring good news for Microsoft: Even before the group starts automatically shipping the new Edge browser with the upcoming Windows 10 October 2020 update, the Chromium Edge has already gained a stable user base according to Windows Latest.

A strong increase over the year

According to the report from Netmarketshare, around 8.84 percent of Edge users were already counted at the end of September. At the beginning of the year, it was 7.02 percent. The current figures in the evaluations by Netmarketshare are quite stable, which shows that users like the Edge version based on Chromium. Exactly a year ago, Edge was “only” 5.38 percent.

There are still Edge and Edge

A good nine months have passed since the release of the finished Chromium-based Edge version. The actual change of the Edge variants has not yet started properly, because both variants still exist.

This is how the market is developing

The loser in the round is currently Firefox. Year-on-year, Firefox has now lost almost one percent, while Chrome and Edge have gained. But if you look at the numbers, you have to ask yourself whether the massive advertising that Microsoft built into the operating system at the same time has actually paid off. You should have annoyed at least as many users with the information about the new Edge as you have persuaded users to switch.

In any case, it is interesting that Microsoft Edge has now climbed to second place and can maintain its position.
