Microsoft initiates first Windows 11 Insider Update 2022

Microsoft released the first update for Windows Insider this year. If you use Windows 11 in the dev channel, you will now receive an update that fixes a number of errors and starts improvements. Some things are also new. Microsoft has released a new preview version for Windows 11 in the Insider Program. For Windows Insiders in the Dev-Channel, there is now a new preview to try out with the build number 22526. The list of changes for this build is longer again this time – but so is the list of persistent problems. In addition, there are now some experimental changes that will only be rolled out for some of the insiders. This includes, for example, displaying ALT + TAB as a window instead of a full screen for some insiders and expanding the search options in Explorer. More on this in the release notes at the end of this post.

The problems exist

Among other things, the Windows team fixed a bug with the bug check that led to sudden crashes and restarts. In addition, the search in the file explorer has been improved and crashes that may have occurred when searching in the file explorer have been fixed. Windows Insider Managers Amanda Langowski and Brandon LeBlanc provide an overview of the changes Windows blog.

Tweaks and improvements

  • We’re experimenting with displaying ALT + TAB as a window instead of a full screen for some insiders.
  • We added support for broadband speech output when using Apple AirPods products (AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max), which improves the audio quality on voice calls.
  • Starting with build 22518, Credential Guard is now enabled by default on Windows 11 Enterprise (E3 and E5) licensed PCs connected to the company.
  • We’re experimenting with indexing additional file locations to make finding important files quicker in File Explorer.
