Microsoft is soon to be launching a version of Skype for Apple Silicon Macs

Nearly three years after Apple announced the switch from Intel-based Macs to its own Apple silicon chips, several pieces of software still haven’t been upgraded to fully utilize the M1 and M2 CPUs. Fortunately, another application will soon be added to the new list since Microsoft is currently developing a Skype version just for Apple Silicon Macs.

Apple’s Silicon Macs will have native support for Skype

Microsoft has started testing a new version of the Skype for Mac application that offers native support for the Apple silicon platform, as Petri pointed out. As per information from a blog post by Microsoft, the update speeds up the program on Macs with the M1 and M2 CPUs by up to three times.

In a statement, the business said, “Say goodbye to sluggish and poor conversation experiences and hello to lightning-fast speed with crystal-clear audio and visual clarity.” The new program offers “faster and more reliable call connections” for users of Apple Silicon Macs, according to Microsoft, which owns Skype. The business published a video demonstrating how chats now load faster on M1 Macs, going from 200 milliseconds to 70 milliseconds.

With optimum performance and dependability, Skype’s enhanced performance for the Apple Silicon M1 chip is made to offer an unmatched experience. You can maintain contact with the people that matter to you most by using Skype’s native Apple M1 compatibility, which offers call connections that are quicker and more dependable.

The M1 and M2 families of chips can be fully utilized by apps that are run natively on Apple’s silicon. This means that the program will consume less power, giving MacBook users greater battery life.

In 2021, new capabilities were added to the Skype for Mac client, including built-in translation that operates in real time throughout calls. You may download the Insider version of Skype from the app’s website, which supports Apple Silicon Macs. When the update will be accessible to all users is unknown.
