Microsoft Outlook For Windows Now Comes With iCloud And IMAP Support

Microsoft is giving the new Outlook for Windows an update. In addition to Microsoft 365, Gmail, and Yahoo, iCloud, and IMAP accounts are now also supported. This means that almost all e-mail accounts can now be used with the successor to the mail and calendar app.

Almost all email accounts are supported

From the end of August, Microsoft will slowly but surely introduce users of the mail and calendar apps for Windows 11 and Windows 10 to the new Outlook. By the end of 2024, the significantly more extensive software should replace the old system programs. Problem: Not all e-mail accounts were previously supported.

To date, support for the new Outlook for Windows has been limited to mail accounts from the services Microsoft 365 (Office 365 and Exchange), Outlook.com (@outlook.com, @live.com and @hotmail.com), Gmail, and Yahoo. Now comes the long-awaited addition of Apple iCloud and classic IMAP accounts.

Above all, the IMAP integration clears the way for the use of a large number of e-mail addresses from well-known providers such as Web.de, GMX, Freenet, or T-Online as well as personalized e-mail accounts, which may be connected to a web space and own domain.

according to the report, iCloud and IMAP account support was discovered in the current Outlook preview with version number 1.2023.816.100. Apparently, however, the new features will be rolled out in waves. We also use the version mentioned and only have access to the known integrations (Exchange, and Gmail) and iCloud.

The new Outlook for Windows can currently be tried out in a public preview. To do this, interested users only have to toggle the “Try the new Outlook” switch at the top right-hand edge of the current Outlook desktop client.
