Copilot integration: OneDrive gets smarter

Microsoft has taken a significant step towards AI-powered productivity: Copilot is now available to all commercial users in OneDrive. This integration could fundamentally change the way we work with files in the cloud.

OneDrive, Microsoft’s file hosting service that launched in 2007 as Windows Live Folders, is getting a major AI upgrade – and more is likely to be announced in a few days. Users with a commercial Copilot license can now benefit from various new functions designed to make their work more efficient.

Intelligent document analysis and comparison

One of Copilot’s key features in OneDrive is the ability to summarize large documents. Users can task the AI ​​to create summaries for individual documents or even up to five documents at once. This saves valuable time when processing information.

The ability to compare differences between multiple documents is also particularly useful. Copilot can analyze up to five files at the same time and display the differences in a clear table – without having to open the files manually.

AI-powered search

According to the Microsoft Tech Community Copilot’s functionality in OneDrive goes even further. The AI ​​can answer complex questions about stored files and even generate ideas for new documents based on the content already in OneDrive.

To use Copilot in OneDrive, users simply need to select a file and click the Copilot button. From there, they can select the action they want or ask a question about the files.

Restrictions remain

The Copilot integration is currently only available to users with a Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 commercial license. Private users still have to be patient. But Microsoft is already planning further improvements.
