Microsoft Releases Out Of Box Experience Update For Windows 10

Windows 10 Insider preview

Microsoft has released an update for Windows 10 for the second time within a few days, which is intended to improve the option to update Windows 10 or upgrade to Windows 11 as a so-called “Out of Box Experience Update”.

It also improves compatibility for updates and upgrades. The update is another update that is intended to improve the user experience, especially when installing for the first time on a new device or when installing a fresh installation on an old device, the so-called out of box experience. The latest update can now be found in the Knowledge Base under KB5005716

Update for current Windows versions

It’s the latest Out of Box Experience update for Windows 10 version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2. Microsoft had already started an OOBE update for these versions a few days ago. However, much information is currently not available on this. The new update is available for all Windows 10 versions that are currently still regularly supported. This is a stand-alone update for the OOBE process. A restart is required.

Microsoft writes the following about the new version:
This update improves the out-of-box experience (OOBE) of Windows 10, version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2 by giving eligible devices the option of using the OOBE process on the Windows 11 update. If upgrading to Windows 11 is chosen, the upgrade process will begin shortly after the OOBE is complete. This update only applies to the Windows 10 version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2 OOBE process and is only available when OOBE updates are installed.

This update applies to the following versions:

  • Windows 10 Version 2004 (Home and Professional only)
  • Windows 10, Version 20H2 (Home and Professional only)
  • Windows 10 Version 21H1 (Home and Professional only)
