Microsoft Rolls Out New dynamic updates for Windows 11

Microsoft has released new dynamic updates for Windows 11. The updates bring improvements to the Windows recovery environment Winre. So far, there are no details of the update content.

Dynamic Windows updates

Microsoft now supplies all Windows 11 versions, i.e. version 22H2, 23H2 and 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 with new dynamic updates. That under the identifier KB5056378 Update published is the dynamic update for Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H2. The update KB5054981 is the dynamic update for version 24h2. The associated safety updates can be found at KB5054059 (22h2 and 23h2) and KB5054686 (24h2).

Safeos and setup updates aim to improve the Windows recovery environment (WinRe). As usual, however, the group did not publish details – so what has changed in comparison to the predecessors is not clear. If further information is published promptly, we will be sufficient here.

According to Microsoft, users should use the update promptly to protect their systems in the best possible way. Dynamic updates differ fundamentally from regular Windows updates. On the one hand, they are used especially when upgrading to a new Windows version and, on the other hand, are therefore usually not automatically distributed via the usual Windows update mechanism.

Microsoft explains that the updates KB5056378 and KB5054981 are therefore not available for distribution via the automatic Windows update function. Users must start manual installation via the downloads from the Windows update catalog or via the server update services. The updates KB5054059 and KB5054686, on the other hand, are also distributed via the Windows update function.

The updates include different components:

  • Corrections for setup binemy files
  • SafeOS updates for Windows Redes Creation Environment
  • Updates for the service stack
  • The latest cumulative quality update
  • Driver updates from manufacturers

Availability and compatibility

The updates KB5056378 and KB5054981 are available for both ARM64 and AMD64-based PCs. The Windows recovery environment (WinRe for short) plays a central role in the error removal of boot problems. Accordingly, improvements in this area can significantly improve system stability and restoration options in an emergency and are essential in the event of problems.
