Microsoft Surface Duo Now Available In Europe

The Microsoft Surface Duo is also starting today in Europe. For prices starting at 1549 euros, you can get the hybrid smartphone with two displays and Google Android operating system home to become part of an interesting hardware experiment.

The Surface Duo is available in two versions, which differ only in the 128 GB or 256 GB internal flash memory. So far, the dual-screen smartphone can only be purchased independently of a mobile phone contract through Microsoft partners. Many stores offer the dual-screen smartphone for collection on-site, which is why interested parties can get their device in their hands even faster than with home delivery.

With the Surface Duo, Microsoft is not only venturing into the highly competitive smartphone market but is also using Android as the operating system for the first time since the failure of Windows 10 Mobile. Of course, the Surface Duo offers various adaptations for use on two screens and deep integration of Microsoft apps from the Office ecosystem.

Surface Duo dual-screen multitasking

Technically, the Surface Duo has a highly unusual form factor, but it uses an older platform. The device has two 5.6-inch, very high-resolution OLED displays with 1350 x 1800 pixels or, together, 2700 x 1800 pixels, which are held together by freely adjustable hinges and can also be operated with the Surface Pen using a pen.

On the other hand, the device has relatively wide bezels and comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octacore SoC, which is now two years old. However, the chip still offers more than sufficient performance and is always combined with six gigabytes of RAM, but can no longer keep up with the latest high-end SoCs from Qualcomm & Co in terms of performance.

The Surface Duo also only has a single 11-megapixel camera and offers a 3577 mAh not necessarily ample power storage that has to operate two displays. Basically, the Surface Duo should be able to score points with some customers primarily with its software features, as it offers interesting options for multitasking across the two screens.
