Microsoft Testing An Update Process In Windows 11

Shortly before the weekend, Microsoft started another update for Windows 11 in the Insider program. It is a further test for the update process for Windows 11, i.e. for the update mechanism.

All volunteer testers who use the Windows Insider Program for Windows 11 in the Dev Channel will now receive another cumulative update after the latest preview version, which Microsoft published with some new features in the middle of the week. With this new update, there is another update test and no visible changes. With the renewed cumulative Windows Insider Update, Microsoft is testing optimizations for the update process, i.e. for the routine with which new Windows updates are delivered. Even if that doesn’t sound so interesting at first, it is important that many insiders take part in this test so that as much feedback and data as possible can be collected.

Testing For Updates In Future

The new cumulative update does not bring any innovations, it says in a supplementary post in the Windows blog. We already know from the past that these tests for the maintenance pipeline often run for weeks alongside the actual function development, but that users themselves do not notice any changes. The new build number is 22504.1010 (KB5008697). Windows manager Brandon LeBlanc writes about the publication:

Microsoft has been working for some time to improve the actual update process for Windows. It started with the introduction of cumulative updates, went on to optimize the update routine in delivery, and finally led to new update packages: With Windows 11, the Windows team managed to greatly reduce the size of the update packages, which is special To benefit users with limited internet access. What Microsoft has now changed in the new build is not known, and little was known about this in the past.
