Microsoft Xbox Sales Dropped In Europe

Microsoft has a real problem in Europe when it comes to sales of its current Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X gaming consoles. According to a new report, sales have recently fallen by over 50 percent while Sony’s PS5 sales have skyrocketed.

The association reports for Europe- UK and Germany Excluded

According to the Game Sales Data survey by the Video Games Europe industry association, which GamesIndustry.biz refers to, among others, the PlayStation 5 is comfortably ahead in all observed markets in Europe (the UK and Germany are excluded). Compared to October of the previous year, Sony recently sold 143 percent more devices, which is mainly due to the significantly better availability.

The Nintendo Switch is still number 2 in the markets surveyed by GSD, even though sales figures in October are said to have fallen by 20 percent compared to the same month last year. According to the report, Microsoft’s Xbox models continue to have an extremely difficult time in Europe, as their sales have fallen surprisingly sharply.

As many as 481,000 devices were sold in October

Sales of Microsoft Xbox consoles fell by a whopping 52 percent in October year-on-year. A total of 481,000 game consoles from all manufacturers were recently sold within one month in the observed markets. In a month-on-month comparison, sales only increased at Sony and Nintendo – by 11 and 10 percent respectively. At the same time, Microsoft’s unit sales fell by almost 20 percent.

As dramatic as the numbers sound, at least some of the reasons are simple. The biggest Xbox launch this year in terms of exclusives was Starfield, which came out in September. Sony’s big exclusive Spider-Man 2 and Nintendo’s most recent major title Super Mario Bros Wonder both launched in October.

Despite this, Video Games Europe has not published any data on this. The figures described here come from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, Spain and Switzerland.
