NASA adds its live content to Netflix

Netflix now gives access to further live content through a partnership with the US room trip authority NASA. In the future, transmissions of rocket starts and much more should also be seen in the leading streaming provider.

It starts in summer

As announced on Monday, live broadcasts from space via Netflix should be available for the first time this summer. For example, spectators can look forward to live images of rocket starts, astronauts in outboard operations and real -time recordings on earth from the International Space Station (ISS), it said. In addition, selected content of the NASA’s own streaming platform NASA+ is also included in the Netflix program. NASA+ was launched in 2023, is ad -free and is aimed at scientific content, documentation and educational formats to those interested in space of all ages.

For Netflix, the cooperation with NASA marks an important step to expand its live offer. So far, the streaming giant in its live formats focused primarily on entertainment: stand-up comedy, award ceremonies, sporting events or celebrity events such as golf tournaments were the focus. International partnerships, for example with the French broadcaster TF1, brought exclusive access to live shows such as “The Voice” or popular sporting events.

Cooperation with NASA now shows that Netflix also integrates scientific and technical content into its strategy in order to address a wider audience. The streaming provider benefits from the enormous fascination that triggers space travel worldwide.

This is by no means new territory for NASA: the space agency is already present on numerous platforms, including with its own YouTube channel and a recently launched live offer via Amazon Prime Video. The aim is to make enthusiasm for space research to be open to the largest possible public – especially younger target groups, which are increasingly informing themselves about digital platforms.
