New Redmi Smart Band Pro With Large Display launched

As expected, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has presented the new Redmi Smart Band Pro. It is a comparatively inexpensive fitness tracker that is basically also a kind of smartwatch. At the same time, Xiaomi also announced the Redmi Watch 2 Lite.

While the first Redmi Smart Band was a rather crude piece of technology, the Pro version should offer significantly more. The device has a stretched AMOLED display with a 1.47 inch diagonal and rounded corners. It is designed for vertical operation and is almost twice as long as it is wide. Xiaomi specifies the resolution of the screen as 368×194 pixels.

This results in a pixel density of 282 PPI. The panel offers the practically infinite contrast customary with OLED screens and achieves a very decent maximum brightness of 450 candela. The color display should also be decent with a coverage of 100 percent of the NTSC color space.

Xiaomi not only gives the Redmi Smart Band Pro an accelerometer and a gyroscope but also integrates a PPG heart rate monitor and a light sensor. This means that the device is able to record a large number of different movements, be it steps or certain sporting activities. In addition, the Redmi Smart Band Pro can determine the oxygen saturation of the blood, i.e. it determines the SpO2 value.

Up to 14 days battery time

Inside the device is a simple Ambiq Apollo 3.5 processor, which is an extremely energy-saving Cortex-M4F SoC that also provides Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. The device is powered by a 200 mAh battery that provides up to 14 days of running time and is charged via a cable that can be magnetically attached to two pogo pins on the back of the band.

The housing of the Redmi Smart Band Pro is made of plastic, whereby the manufacturer explicitly advertises that fiberglass is incorporated. Ultimately, however, it is only a small proportion of glass fibers, which should at least officially provide more stability. In fact, it has been common practice for notebooks for some time to include fiberglass in the mix for the plastic from which the housings are made.

The Redmi Smart Band Pro from Xiaomi should be waterproof up to 50 meters, although this is of course only an approximate value, which is limited, among other things, by the type of water. The manufacturer did not initially name a price, but the first dealers put the costs at a little less than 60 euros.

In addition to the Smart Band Pro, Xiaomi has also announced the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. Technically, this fitness-focused smartwatch is actually identical due to the same platform. However, a simple LCD with a diagonal of 1.55 inches and 360×320 pixels is used here.

The sensor technology inside remains unchanged, but the battery is quite a bit larger with 262mAh. According to Xiaomi, the runtime is up to 10 days, with activated GPS “only” up to 14 hours of continuous operation. In this case, too, the price is still unclear.
