Next month, Google Play Movies and TV will be replaced with Google TV
The days of Google Play Movies and TV are numbered. Therefore, it should not be shocking that the app and online clients will soon be discontinued. However, YouTube and Google TV will take their place. The news was shared by the company in a blog post. The company claims in the blog post that Android TV devices and Google Play websites will lack support for Google Play Movies and TV. Reportedly, the company is adopting this strategy to streamline the process of accessing or buying movies and TV content.
Google TV and YouTube are alternates that can be used by users to access content and new movies. According to the company, the changes will begin on January 17, 2024. The day that Google Play Movies and TV will stop working is not specified, but it is most likely going to happen on the above-mentioned day.
One thing to notice here is that the device a user uses is also crucial for accessing movies and shows. Your Library row of Google TV’s Shop page contains your purchased titles and rented movies for TVs and streaming devices running Android TV. You can access your titles and rent or buy new content on YouTube if you own a cable or set-top box with Android TV. Additionally, all of this will be available on YouTube for internet users.
You will still be able to access your previous material, even though it might not be the best option to keep using Google Play Movies and TV. For media consumers on PlayStation who recently lost their digital material from Discovery, that is more than can be said.
