Nintendo Launches Official Website to Check Switch 2 Game Compatibility

Nintendo has launched a new website to help Switch 2 owners quickly check which games are compatible with the new console. The simple search tool immediately shows whether titles run smoothly or have compatibility issues.

New website simplifies compatibility checks

Nintendo has a new one website released to help Switch 2 owners quickly check which previous generation games will work on the new console. The tool solves a practical problem for millions of gamers who want to use their existing game collection on the new hardware. The website is extremely easy to use: users enter the name of a game or a general search term and immediately receive information about the compatibility status. Each results page provides information about whether the game runs consistently, whether problems can occur, or whether there is complete incompatibility. How Nintendo Life reported that the new tool represents a significant improvement over previous PDF lists.

An overwhelming majority of titles from the previous console work without any problems with the Switch 2. However, there are a few exceptions that might surprise even experienced gamers. What’s notable is that even highly acclaimed ports like NieR: Automata are currently having trouble on the new hardware. However, Nintendo says it is continually working to improve compatibility. Since the launch of the Switch 2 in June, several waves of patches have been released to make additional titles playable.

The company shows that backwards compatibility is not just a sales argument, but is actively maintained. By the way, the technical implementation of backwards compatibility on the Switch 2 is quite innovative. Nintendo uses a hybrid solution that combines hardware-based compatibility with software emulation. The system converts Switch game data into a format readable by the Switch 2 in real time. An additional advantage: Switch games can even use new features on the new console, including GameChat support.
