Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 with 12GB starts at hefty price of 1400 euros

Nvidia secretly, quietly and quietly releases the new GeForce RTX 3080 with 12GB of memory and lets graphics card manufacturers such as Asus, MSI and EVGA take the limelight. Their pricing is based on the chaotic market and at least 1400 euros are due.

While Nvidia continues to advertise the recommended retail price of the original GeForce RTX 3080 with 10 GB of video memory at 719 euros, prices in European online shops have been in excess of 1500 euros for months. For an RTX 3080 Ti, you have to pay more than 2000 euros in some cases. So it is hardly surprising that the UVP of the new 12 GB version is set comparatively high – at least as far as the so-called custom designs from Asus, MSI, EVGA and Co. are concerned.

On paper, EVGA is currently offering the cheapest price for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 GB of GDDR6X memory and a slightly increased number of Cuda cores. According to the manufacturer’s website, the XC3 Ultra Gaming variant costs 1387 euros and the FTW3 Ultra Gaming model 1437 euros. Asus, on the other hand, specifies the price for its ROG Strix Gaming and TUF Gaming adaptations of the improved RTX 3080 at 1639 euros and 1519 euros, respectively. A look at the price comparison also shows the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming Z Trio 12G, which should go for 1799 euros on the virtual counter.

Nvidia’s own Founders Edition of the RTX 3080 (12 GB) is currently not available, which is why there is no comparison with an official RRP. We also have to wait and see the first test reports which quantify the added value of the new Ampere graphics card in games.

In theory, it should fill the comparatively small performance gap of 10 percent between the RTX 3080 (10 GB) and the RTX 3080 Ti. Finally, interested parties should not assume that Nvidia will ease the situation on the graphics card market with the new 12 GB model. Production draws on the capabilities of the original RTX 3080, which is still in production.
