Pixel 3 Receives last security update

Pixel 3 XL

Do not expect to receive any more security updates on your Pixel 3. Esper’s Mishaal Rhaman has discovered that Google has released one final security update to Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 and 3 XL. Google previously announced that they would release the Pixel 3 would get one final update in the first quarter of 2022. It also confirmed to Engadget that it is the final update for the Pixel 3.

It’s not clear what the patch will fix. But, DarkPlayer noted that the build ID is identical to that for a patch in October which targeted the latest Pixel model on Verizon. This is a catch-up patch instead of an actual patch.

It is possible to expect more if you own an updated Pixel at the very minimum. Google has published an update in February 2022 for Pixel 3a and older phones. This update fixes a variety of major problems, such as reboots that occur while using the camera, Bluetooth audio disconnection, quality issues, specific connection problems for carriers, issues, and keyboards that can override input text in certain cases.

It won’t be a great experience even if you’re happy with Google’s Pixel 3 — you’ll need to upgrade if require the most up-to-date security features. Don’t worry if you have the Pixel 6, though. Google promises an additional five years of security upgrades for its new smartphone line which means you don’t need to worry about updates until 2026.
