Samsung’s generative AI might not be accessible to everyone

As per a recent anonymous report, the South Korean tech giant Samsung is working on the development of advanced artificial intelligence. It will work similarly to Bing Chat, Google Bard, and ChatGPT. The source has mentioned that the information was confirmed by Samsung’s Kye Hyun Kyung on Friday. One thing to note here is that the Generative AI introduced by Samsung would be restricted to only selected users.

Samsung is eager to utilize the powers of AI. Earlier, the company provided its workers with access to ChatGPT but after some data breaches the company abandoned the use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The anonymous report was cited by The Investor. The report indicates that the news about the generative AI tool in development was shared by Samsung’s Kye Hyun Kyung during a lecture at Yonsei University.

According to a quote in the paper from Kye Hyun Kyung, “Depending on how we use generative AI, there can be incredible innovation in what we do.” The CEO went on to say that the business is “promoting the introduction of customized AI through a local specialized firm.” Older rumors suggest that Samsung and Naver Corp. are working together to create AI.

An AI just for Samsung corporate users

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and several others are widely available for public use. However, Samsung’s AI tool will be mainly for in-house use. In this way, the company can better take care of the data breaches. It will work more efficiently while retaining sensitive information inside the company premises.

The AI will be based on a closed circuit. It will use the company’s servers while being only available to Samsung semiconductor and software developers. Samsung doesn’t aim to introduce a ChatGPT competitor rather it wants to leverage the powers of AI and provide better products.  Reportedly, the company will introduce a basic version by the end of this year. Whereas the stable version of Samsung generative AI will be unveiled in February 2024.
