Sony won’t release a new PlayStation first-party title until March 2025

According to some recent pieces of information, there won’t be any new PlayStation title until next year. The recent information comes from company itself. The company unveiled in its financial results for Q3 2023 that no new game for any current major series will arrive till March 2025. Well, it is a sad news for PlayStation enthusiasts since they won’t have access to any new first-party app for another year. Besides this, the company shared that it is working on major titles that might debut after March 2025.

“With regard to first-party software, we intend to maintain our focus on creating high-caliber works and creating live-service games. However, even though we have big projects underway, we do not have any plans to release any new major titles from existing franchises like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man in the upcoming fiscal year.”

You might be thinking about the possible reasons behind this move. Well, it appears like the company opted for this move because of two major reasons. First and foremost, according to the COO and CFO, Hiroki Totoki, the development and release of games have not been adequately scheduled by the creative teams. Secondly, the firm is currently prioritizing the sales of third-party software over PlayStation-only releases.

During the financial results, the COO and CFO of the company revealed that the PS5 has entered the latter half of console cycle. For this reason, the company might observe a gradual decline in sales of the product from 2025. By the end of 2026, however, Microsoft intends to release two new game systems. There will be two consoles: a high-end console that resembles the Xbox Series X, and a handheld console that docks.
