Spotify Platinum Subscription Details Are Here

After Spotify indefinitely postponed the introduction of its premium tariff with hi-fi quality, there is now a new sign of life. The music streaming service asks users about their interest in “Spotify Platinum“, a new subscription for a whopping $19.99.

Apple Music, Amazon Music (Unlimited), Deezer, and Tidal. not only have a selection of millions of songs in common, but almost all music platforms now offer lossless streaming in hi-fi quality. And this without raising the costs of the associated subscriptions. Apple and Amazon in particular thwarted Spotify’s plans to gild CD quality with their decision to go with the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) or Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC).

Platinum Subscription at $19.99 Good Enough?

Now the Swedish music streaming service seems to be taking a new approach. Officially, it remains quiet about the hi-fi tariff, but in the background, the first users are being asked whether they would return to Spotify for a platinum subscription for $19.99 (probably €19.99). In addition to the apparently increasing audio quality, other key data of the quite expensive tariff, which were published on Reddit, among other things, are shown.

There’s talk of improved libraries and playlists with pro features, as well as unspecified studio sound, headphone optimizations, and audio insights. Despite the high basic fee, Spotify seems to be sticking to advertising for podcasts, but only to a limited extent for platinum customers (limited ad). In the end, there are two questions: Will Spotify release its platinum subscription in this form? And who is willing to increase from the current $9.99 to $19.99 per month?
