Surface Laptop 4 Update Brings Performance Improvement For AMD Versions

Microsoft has released additional Surface firmware and driver updates for the AMD version of the Surface Laptop 4 series. As far as is known so far, these are security-relevant changes and optimizations, especially for the graphics performance.

Microsoft has brought a new update of the firmware on the way, which brings security-relevant changes with it. Microsoft has compiled all the important information about the changes on the overview pages for the fourth generation. There you will find a list of all available driver updates. The update is recommended for all Surface Laptop owners using the AMD version. The Surface Laptop 4 with an Intel chip received an update a few days ago. The November 2021 update has been in delivery for a few days. These firmware updates will be distributed gradually, i.e. offered to all affected users, but not in one fell swoop.

The Latest Update:

  • Improves the stability and reliability of the device
  • Improves graphics stability and performance
  • Addresses a critical vulnerability and improves system stability
  • Improves the stability of Surface Dock 2 connections and interop scenarios

Performance Improvements

However, many details about the content of the update have not yet been published. The update is available from Windows 10 version 20h2 (November 2020 update) and therefore also for the newer Windows 10 versions. You simply get the update automatically via the Windows update function and can install it there with a click of the confirmation button. If you want to force the updates, you can use the update function to search for new updates and then execute the – or the – updates displayed there. In most cases the updates are cumulative – so if an update has been missed, the changes will be loaded with the latest driver/firmware version.

You may then also see “Optional Updates” in the Windows Update settings. Microsoft recommends selecting these updates to ensure that all of the Surface drivers listed in this version have been installed. When it comes to firmware updates, however, it is important to know that they cannot be uninstalled or rolled back to an earlier version.
