The Libero Flip is the first vertically foldable device by ZTE

Reportedly, the Libero Flip is the first vertical folding 5G phone unveiled by ZTE in association with Y Mobile (the subsidiary of SoftBank). The device is now available for pre-orders. It is priced at 63,000 yen (approximately $420). The device is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. It is available in a single storage configuration: 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

The Libero Flip features a 6.9-inch internal screen with a resolution of 2790×1188. It accompanies a convenient 1.43-inch circular external screen with multiple functions like weather updates, music playback control, camera usage for selfies, and step tracking. The device features a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP depth-of-field lens. A 16MP selfie camera can be found on the front. Interestingly, you can utilize the phone’s camera by resting it between 60 and 110 degrees, which allows you to take sharp, still pictures while it’s on a table.

Design and build of the Libero Flip

The smartphone is available in three color options: blue, white, and gold. It measures 76mm in width and a slim profile of 7.3mm when unfolded (15.5mm when folded). The Libero Flip weighs 214g. It has IP42 dust and water resistance rating. It packs a 4,310mAH battery with support for 33W QC4+/PD3.0 fast charging. It can be fully charged in 73 minutes. For privacy and protection, the smartphone features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face recognition. Other connectivity features include support for Wi-Fi 6, FeliCa-compatible NFC functionality, Bluetooth 5.2, and some other features.

Significantly related to the ZTE Libero Flip, another clamshell foldable from its former subsidiary brand Nubia surfaced in the IMEI database as the Nubia Flip 5G with model number NX724J in December of last year. It was certified 3C yesterday and supports 33W charging. The Nubia Flip 5G may be simply a rebranded version of the ZTE Libero Flip. The release date of the Nubia Flip 5G has not yet been officially announced.
