The Nintendo Switch exceeds 110 million sales despite a bad second quarter

Nintendo just announced that its Switch has now sold 111 million units. It is therefore another milestone surpassing the console, which is getting closer and closer to the podium, in addition to an achievement given the financial results of the Kyoto firm, which is half-mast in almost all areas during the second quarter of its fiscal year.

Last February, the Nintendo Switch entered the highly exclusive club of consoles that have sold over 100 million units, overtaking the PS1 and its longtime rival, the Wii. The video game world, therefore, continues to look for sales figures for the small laptop, which could well surpass the last behemoths in the ranking. The Kyoto company’s financial results for the second quarter of its fiscal year were also eagerly anticipated when they were revealed on Wednesday.

At first glance, there isn’t really much to celebrate. Like most other tech giants, Nintendo loses on almost every level. Turnover decreased by EUR 2.2 billion by 5%. The decline is even stronger for profits which are 748 million euros (-15%). Despite everything, the Switch manages to hold its own in this stormy climate by crossing a new milestone in its history: that of 110 million sales.

Nintendo Switch may soon catch up with PS4 sales

To date, the console has sold 111.08 million units. Still in fifth place in the ranking, so it still lags behind the PS4 and the Game Boy. A result that was not achieved in advance: with 3.43 million units sold in this second quarter, Nintendo Switch sales fell by 23% compared to last year. However, this figure does not really worry the company Kyoto.

Indeed, the latter evokes above all the lack of components, which limits its production and, de facto, its sales. According to the manufacturer, “demand remains stable in all regions”, allowing him to remain confident in the coming months. The latter has thereby indicated that it will maintain its target of 21 million sales by March 2023. To achieve this, Nintendo can count on the release of highly anticipated games such as Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Splatoon 3.
