The Redmi 12 5G is being rebranded by POCO days after it became official

Just two days back, Xiaomi introduced the Redmi 12 5G in the Indian market. It was the first smartphone featuring the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC provides 5G capabilities at a cheaper price. In this way, it serves as a perfect choice for mid-range smartphones. Well, if you wish to have more choices with this SoC, then get ready since POCO will be offering the M6 Pro 5G in India this week.

Reports suggest that the POCO M6 Pro 5G is a rebranded version of the Redmi 12 5G. The company has already teased the launch of the M6 Pro 5G. The smartphone is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2023. The smartphone accompanies a black bar across the camera setup on the back. Well, this is the signature element of POCO. However, the back and placement of the camera island are similar to the Redmi 12 5G.

Additionally, we know that the Redmi 12 5G shares its pseudonym “sky” with other rebrands including the Redmi Note 12R and the POCO M6 Pro 5G thanks to MIUI code. The devices that share the same codename share the majority of features as well. They could have small differences based on different regions. Notably, the differences are cosmetic but they could also span across storage and memory configurations.

As a sub-brand, POCO constantly employs this rebranding approach. Customers benefit because the products are only available online and typically cost less as a result. The price of the POCO M6 Pro 5G and how it affects sales of the Redmi 12 5G are still to be determined.

In addition to this, the country head of POCO, Himanshu Tandon declared that the company will partner with Reliance Jio for the debut of the POCO M6 Pro 5G. besides this, there are no further details. One thing to notice here is that Redmi 12 5G doesn’t include any such partnership and it still works well across 5G operators in the country.
