The Status tab on WhatsApp might soon receive an update

Most of WhatsApp’s latest updates concentrate around features such as Channels, which were extensively launched last year. Recent software upgrades have given us a good indication of what to expect, including the option to share Channel content as status updates. It appears like WhatsApp is preparing a change for the Status area of the Updates page, which holds both Status and Channel postings.

WABetaInfo, who discovered it in WhatsApp beta for Android v2.24.4.23, has provided us with an in-depth look at the new Status tab makeover. This update essentially makes the status section more apparent on the Updates page. However, it appears that the modification is only visible to a few beta testers at the present. So, it might be possible that even the latest versions won’t display revamped design.

While WABetaInfo’s picture only provides a glimpse of the self-uploaded state, updates from your contacts should be displayed next to them in a card-style fashion. In contrast, the previous style of the Status section makes use of a circular symbol with the user’s display image. This makeover also includes a fast glimpse of the status updates you or your connections have made.

One possible source of worry is that these card-based status previews occupy substantially more space than the Channel update list. However, previews are the best option for status updates since they allow users to simply choose which updates to see or skip. If numerous status updates are uploaded, users should be able to see the first one in the preview. We assume that hitting the preview will bring up a list of the other accessible updates from that contact.

Because this revamp of the Status tab has only debuted in WhatsApp beta, it’s unclear whether it will ever find its way to the app’s stable version in the future. However, given how much better this makeover is than the status previews, we hope it makes the cut.
