The new customs regulations of the US government under Trump now have extremely unsightly consequences for Lego fans in the United States. The Danish toy manufacturer has almost completely set a popular service with which you can order certain building blocks.
In Germany and Europe, the so-called Pick-A-Brick online service from Lego is still available fully available. Not so in the USA. In a step that apparently goes back to the abolition of the so-called “de Minimis” regulation, Lego surprisingly hired his pick-a-brick service in the USA at the end of last week.
The service usually enables Lego enthusiasts to select certain LEGO stones from the manufacturer’s gigantic fund and then receive them by post. Lego removed according to the blog New Elementary Thousands of “standard elements” from its offer and thus also from the shopping baskets of numerous users.
Currently, only so-called “bestsellers” building blocks are available for US customers, which is probably due to the possibility of importing larger quantities under economically portable conditions. The elimination of the standard building blocks from the pick-a-brick offer, curiously, not only affects the United States. Even Canadian customers can no longer order the parts.
For Canadian Lego fans, the step is now a kind of collective punishment, after all, Canada has made no changes to its import regulations. With the elimination of the “de Minimis” regulation, all packages with a goods value below $ 800 are now occupied with dialists with different high tariffs depending on the country of origin. Various parcel service providers have therefore largely stopped shipping to the USA, from which Legos could also be affected by Legos.
Since the standard building blocks were usually sent from a warehouse at the Lego headquarters in Billund Danish, they would be documented with an import submission on the US side of 15 percent. In theory, the sales of the building blocks from the “Pick a Brick” service from LEGO could also be guaranteed again in the medium term using the new Trump-Zölle. However, the setting of parcel traffic by service providers such as DHL, and UPS should prevent this anyway.
