Weekly Review and Outlook: Unreal Engine 5 Outscores Computex

Before Computex 2022 starts next week with keynotes from AMD and Nvidia, the Unreal Engine 5 in particular managed to score points this week. However, the two different projects also led to different opinions.

Ford Sync 4 in Focus and Mach-E

In last week’s test, most readers were interested in how Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system performed in the Mustand Mach-E, in which it will be available since spring 2021, and especially in the new Ford Focus, which includes the facelift. now also available for the first time.

Compared to Sync 3, Sync 4 can clearly improve in all areas: speed, better menu structure, and graphical quality of the displays. In combination with a smartphone, the large display in the Mach-E is especially attractive, as CarPlay is already optimized for it, but Android Auto is not. However, Ford does not guarantee that Sync 4 will be used in all new models in the future. Especially in the high volume Fiesta, it will probably stay with Sync 3 for the time being.

Unreal Engine 5 in the double package on top

In contrast, last week’s reports show that the interest in the Unreal Engine has doubled. On the one hand, the company Quixel, which belongs to Epic Games, demonstrated how quickly almost photo-realistic virtual worlds can be created in the new Unreal Engine 5. On the other hand, the Unreal Engine 5 with 8K textures and ray tracing could be tried out in EzBench and the own PC is pushed to the limit.

While the result in the Quixel demo is impressive, which is no doubt also due to the real-world objects digitized by 3D scanning, opinions on EzBench have been rather cautious, as what’s on display doesn’t do justice to the massive hardware requirements, even if it’s different, Raytracing affects each object and renders the leaves individually.

Computex 2022 kicks off

Computex will launch in Taipei early next week, accompanied by new products and announcements from AMD, Nvidia, and Intel. AMD CEO Lisa Su will give another keynote at the start of the exchange (May 23, 8 a.m. CEST), as will Nvidia, although CEO Jensen Huang will not be holding the keynote himself (May 24, 5 a.m. CEST), but Jeff Fisher, so that details about Ada are not to be expected.
