WhatsApp Bringing Picture-in-Picture Feature for Android Soon

picture-in-picture feature for Android

WhatsApp is working on the picture-in-picture feature for Android users which would be launched soon. This new feature would allow WhatsApp users to play videos from YouTube and Instagram in a small window within the messaging app platform. WhatsApp is bringing the picture-in-picture feature so that the users would not need to go to Instagram or YouTube applications for viewing the videos sent to them by their contacts.

According to the reports of WABetaInfo, this new feature would be available for the WhatsApp Android beta version 2.18.234. Presently the feature is under development and has not been enabled for the beta testers yet. The report also mentioned that the feature still requires a lot more improvements before it’s final launch.

There is no clear date specified exactly regarding the launch of this feature. However, this feature is already present on the iOS app, hence it should also be launched for the Android soon.

As per the report, WhatsApp has been engaged for the last couple of months to add this feature and it might be available in one of the next few updates.

When the picture-in-picture feature would roll out on WhatsApp for the Android users, then the users would see a White-coloured play icon on any YouTube or Instagram video link shared on the social messaging application. Users would be required to click on the icon and the video would then pop-up inside the application in a small box. This box could also be expanded or placed anywhere within the messaging app itself and simultaneously the users would also be able to keep texting with their contacts.
