WhatsApp Desktop Video And Voice Calls To Launch Soon

2020 was the year of the pandemic and also of working from home or video communication. Apps like Zoom or Microsoft Teams have become part of everyday work and leisure time. WhatsApp, on the other hand, fell behind somewhat, also because there was less to offer on the PC.

WhatsApp introduced voice calls five years ago, and in 2016 it was also possible to communicate with someone via video. Both options consolidated the application’s reputation as a “function killer” because, after the title SMS killer, WhatsApp also made itself felt in the field of telephony and video communication.

Update: WhatsApp To limit Usage Soon

In the Corona year 2020, work-centered applications came into focus, above all Zoom and Microsoft Teams. WhatsApp fell behind because you apparently did not see yourself threatened in your traditional leisure area. However, “zooming” has also become a household word in contact with grandma and grandpa. This is also due to the fact that Zoom and Co. can not only be used on a smartphone, but also on a PC or laptop.

Calls from video calls also on the PC

In short: WhatsApp has some catching up to do on the desktop and, according to a report by WABetaInfo, the Messenger belonging to Facebook also has a call and video call function on the PC. However, this is only likely to be a direct response to the pandemic profiteers to a limited extent: According to WABetaInfo, the service has been working on integrating these features into the desktop apps for two years.

The rollout of these features has already begun, unfortunately, it is currently a very limited start as the whole thing is still in beta. It is currently not known when the two features will be released to the general public, but it usually doesn’t take too long for a feature to leave beta.
