WhatsApp Upcoming Feature Mutes Calls From Unknown Numbers

Almost every WhatsApp user has probably already received calls from unknown numbers. This is often spam. A new feature could eliminate the problem. In the future, there should be the possibility to block corresponding phone calls.

According to WABetaInfo, the current Android beta of the messenger contains indications that WhatsApp users will soon be able to automatically mute calls from unknown numbers. So far, however, the function is not active. As soon as the feature is delivered with an update, annoying calls from call centers should soon be a thing of the past. Currently, users must reject incoming calls or ignore the request. The call mute feature is currently under development.

Calls are still listed

However, the suppressed calls are not completely blocked. Instead, the connections appear in the call list and in the notification center. Although many incoming calls are unsolicited solicitations, legitimate calls can also come from unknown numbers. If a person changes their phone number, the contact is not always automatically updated. It is also possible that a contact forwarded the number to an acquaintance.

Of course, incoming connections from unsaved numbers are not necessarily suppressed. In the future, there should be an option in the settings with which the feature can be activated and deactivated again. Since the function is integrated into the client, the end-to-end encryption is not undermined.
