Windows 11 Brings a New sound recorder app with many improvements

Microsoft has announced the launch of an enhanced sound recorder app for Windows 11, which is now available on the Dev Channel. The new Sound Recorder replaces the old Voice Recorder that has been included with Windows for decades. Microsoft initially made the new sound recorder app for Windows 11 accessible only to Dev Channel Insider testers. Among other things, it brings a new mark function that allows you to mark certain points in a recording so that they can be found later. In addition, there is now the option to import audio files.

There is also the option to change the microphone used directly from the app so that you can choose the audio source yourself. Another welcome innovation: the user can decide for himself in which format he wants to save his recordings. Probably the most eye-catching innovation is of course the design, where the audio data should be presented attractively during playback or recording.

Changes are based on feedback

According to Microsoft, the new app is mainly intended to meet the needs of users for whom the aforementioned improvements are at the top of their wish list, at least based on the data from the Feedback Hub.

The group has been investing more and more in the refresh or new edition of the apps that come with Windows for some time and has already made major improvements in some other areas. Since the launch of Windows 11 last year, new versions of Paint, the Music Player, the Clock app, and a few other factory-installed apps have been released, among others. It’s still unclear when the new sound recorder app will be included in the “stable” version of Windows 11. At this point, you’ll probably want to collect feedback from the testers.
