Xiaomi’s First Under Display Camera Will Arrive Early 2021

Selfie cameras within a notch, a so-called punch hole or extendable pop-up modules could therefore be a thing of the past in the long term. The aim is to bring an almost frameless mobile phone onto the market. Xiaomi promises that the specially developed technology should not differ in quality from conventional smartphone cameras. In a new blog post, the implementation is explained as follows.

“The proprietary pixel arrangement used in Xiaomi’s 3rd generation under-display camera technology enables the screen to direct light through the sub-pixel gap area so that each individual pixel can maintain a full RGB sub-pixel layout without that the pixel density suffers. “

It also states: “Compared to other commercially available solutions on the market, Xiaomi has doubled the number of horizontal and vertical pixels, so that the same pixel density is achieved above the camera as on the rest of the display surface. The area above the integrated camera, therefore, has the same brightness, color gamut, and color accuracy as the rest of the display. “

It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi can keep its promise in terms of display and image quality as well as a distribution in the next year 2021. The competitor ZTE will also take a similar path with the upcoming Axon 20 5G.
