5G Officially Launched in South Korea

Throughout South Korea, SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus have launched 5G. These three carriers tested 5G services using a pilot phone manufactured by Samsung. A nationwide celebration was conducted by the South Korean operators for marking the launch of the 5th generation of mobile networks.

The CEO of SK Telecom—Park Jung made a video call making use of the 5G phone by Samsung and mentioned that he was immensely moved. He said that the quality was much clearer than on LTE and the response was immediate.

Nearly 13 cities of South Korea are covered by 5G from SK Telecom alone and they also conducted the testing on an AI solution as well which gathers and sends twenty-four high-definition photos from the line of production to a cloud server for processing.

KT, another carrier, held the celebration of the 5G launch in style on the 123-floor Lotte World Tower in the Southern Seoul. A company official said that they have selected the Lota as the first 5G client for emphasizing that 5G is not just a replacement of the mobile network.

LG Uplus also performed 5G testing and in all three, it has got the most 5G base stations in the nation counting 4,100. It has got the plans to expand up to 7,000 by the end of the year. These three carriers are also the only carriers to use Huawei’s equipment for 5G deployment.
