AirPods Pro 2 Comes With Adaptive Transparency Mode With iOS 16.1

One of the new features of the AirPods Pro 2 is adaptive transparency, which is used to reduce ambient noise. Now it looks like Apple is preparing a software update for the first generation AirPods Pro to launch the adaptive transparency mode there too.

New feature for old AirPods Pro

This improvement is currently in beta testing. But it looks like the function will be available with the iOS 16.1 update for the first AirPods Pro. On Reddit, some users discussed the feature in iOS 16.1 Beta 3 after discovering the new Adaptive Transparency mode on their devices. With Beta 3, you can also find the activation of adaptive transparency with the original AirPods Pro in the Settings app / AirPods.

The function makes it possible to intelligently block out certain noises that exceed the audio level. So not all tones are dampened equally so especially very loud tones are softened. Adaptive Transparency is a feature made possible by AirPods Pro’s active noise cancellation (ANC). The first and second AirPods Pro models support ANC.

The user can toggle between regular noise cancellation and transparency. If adaptive transparency is enabled on AirPods Pro 2nd generation, users will benefit from noise cancellation even in transparency mode as soon as the AirPods detect loud noises. The earphones then reduce the volume that penetrates.

The function also ensures that you are not exposed to excessively loud noises, as this can be harmful. iOS already measures the volume to check and warn the audio level.
